Celebrating Mom

I saw a post online the other day that said, “Sometimes I open my mouth and my mother comes out”.  It made me laugh because my own mother likes to remind me that I am more like her than I think.  Secretly, I know that I am very much like her.  In fact, from a young age, I have had plans to be as good of a Mom as she has been and continues to be to my brothers and me…and any of our friends along our way in life.

As far as moms go, I have one of the best ones out there.  If you need someone on your side, call her.  If you want to feel better about yourself….again, call my Mom.  She is strong, she is smart, she is funny and she is caring.  Once she meets you, she wants to know everything about you.  You have a friend for life.  My Mom is the lady that compliments complete strangers on, well… anything.  If you have a cute baby, she will let you know.  If you have on cute shoes, she will let you know.  If you sang in church (good or bad), she will tell you what an amazing job you did.  The best is when we are shopping and someone is trying on new shoes or a dress or a scarf.  My mom always compliments them.  It is amazing to see her impact on people. Often times, they will seek her out and ask her advice on new items that they are trying on.

We talk on the phone quite a bit.  Most days, I call my Mom before I go to work.  Mainly, we talk about the weather, food (good or bad) or what we have planned for the rest of the day.  But, without a doubt, my Mom will ask what I am wearing to work.  I tell her and she usually replies “oh, I bet you look cute”.  Who else would care and who else would take the time to ask?

My Mom loves to laugh.  She grew up in a family of 10 kids and those kids knew how to love each other and knew how to love life.  My Mom has wonderful memories of her childhood.  In fact, she tells people that she didn’t know her family didn’t have a lot of money when she was growing up, because they all had so much fun together.  It was only once she became an adult that she realized they didn’t have much money.

My Mom has also seen her fair share of sad times and hard times, but has an amazing way of supporting others, even when she is hurting the most.  Her mom, my Grandma, was the same way.  Very, very strong and ready to protect and comfort everyone else.  I can only hope that I have been blessed with that kind of strength.

My Mom is an amazing lady.  She is a wonderful mother, wife, mother-in-law, a beautiful grandmother and an amazing friend.  So, in honor of the upcoming Mother’s Day celebration this Sunday, I just wanted to share a little bit about my own mom.

I would also like to say Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mamas with us here on earth and to all those moms in our hearts and on our minds this Mother’s Day.  You have a powerfully tender job.  Just by being you, you teach us how to love, how to be better people and how to be strong enough to care for others.  Moms, you make the world go around.  Thank you.

Happy Mother’s Day from your friends at Schuler Shoes.
