Community, Joy of Giving Back

Bright Futures

In 2018, Schuler Shoes and Rockport awarded $500 grants to nine teachers in Minnesota. We are hearing reports of how those grants were used and the impact it is having on students, classrooms and communities. Here is the latest:

Dear Schuler Shoes, As we come to the end of the school year, I just wanted to write and thank you again for the grant for our AVID program!  Today we will be spending the last of the grant money to send final transcripts to colleges. By the numbers, here is what your donation allowed our kids to do:

  1.  We had 11 seniors in our program this year.
  2.  They were accepted by 81 colleges & offered $3,402,408 in scholarships!
  3.  Every student officially committed to a college last week and almost all will be the first generation of their family to go to college.
  4.  They are accepting just under $1,000,000 in scholarships and grants over the next four years.

For students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds, this program is life-changing.  And there were a dozen times this year that they could have stalled out – because sending an ACT score was too expensive or an application had an unexpected fee or it would cost too much to send updated transcripts.  But each time we were able to go back to our grant money and bridge the gap for our students.

Thank you so much for your work and support!  I don’t know if programs are allowed to apply again in the future, but we would definitely be interested – you have been a lifesaver!
